Living what we profess.........

Some emails are so worthy of passing on and I think this one of those..........

>> His name is Bill. He has wild hair, wears a T-shirt with
>> holes in it, jeans, and no shoes. This was literally his wardrobe for
>> his entire four years of college.
>>
>> He is brilliant. Kind of profound and very, very bright. He
>> became a Christian while attending college.
>>
>> Across the street from the campus is a well-dressed, very
>> conservative church. They want to develop a ministry to the students but
>> are not sure how to go about it.
>>
>> One day Bill decides to go there. He walks in with no shoes,
>> jeans, his T-shirt, and wild hair. The service has already started and
>> so Bill starts down the aisle looking for a seat.
>>
>> The church is completely packed and he can't find a seat. By
>> now, people are really looking a bit uncomfortable, but no one says
>> anything.
>>
>> Bill gets closer and closer and closer to the pulpit, and
>> when he realizes there are no seats, he just squats down right on the
>> carpet.
>>
>> By now the people are really uptight, and the te nsion in the
>> air is thick.
>>
>> About this time, the minister realizes that from way at the
>> back of the church, a deacon is slowly making his way toward Bill.
>>
>> Now the deacon is in his eighties, has silver-gray hair, and a
>> three-piece suit. A godly man, very elegant, very dignified, very
>> courtly. He walks with a cane and, as he starts walking toward this boy,
>> everyone is saying to themselves that you can't blame him for what he's
>> going to do.
>>
>> How can you expect a man of his age and of his background to
>> understand some college kid on the floor?
>>
>> It takes a long time for the man to reach the boy.
>>
>> The church is utterly silent except for the clicking of the
>> man's cane. All eyes are focused on him. You can't even hear anyone
>> breathing.
>> Th e minister can't even preach the sermon until the deacon does what he
>> has to do.
>>
>> And now they see this elderly man drop his cane on the floor.
>> With great difficulty, he lowers himself and sits down next to Bill and
>> worships
>> with him so he won't be alone.
>>
>> Everyone chokes up with emotion. When the minister gains
>> control, he says "What I'm about to preach, you will never remember.
>> What you have just seen, you will never forget."
>>
>> "Be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible some
>> people will ever read!"
>>
>> I asked the Lord to bless you
>> as I prayed for you today.
>> To guide you and protect you
>> as you go along your way....
>> His love is always with you,
>> His promises are true,
>> And when we give Him all our cares,
>& gt; You know He will see us through.

>> God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
>>
>> You shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You
>> need to be able to throw something back.

Thank you Betty,
You don't know me and I don't know you but I found you through Lovella and you have blessed me today with your post. What an incredible witness that older gentleman had! And the words following - the reminder that I needed today. He will never leave us or forsake us. Thank you again.

Betty,

This post is BEAUTIFUL!! It touched me in a special way. I have been so hurt by those in a church that called themselves Christians. I no longer attend church because of what happened, but worship God in my home. How different Bill's experience. The deacon was indeed one of God's children and oh, so wise. Thanks for sharing this wonderful message.

Blessings,
Mary

I agree some emails ARE worth passing along. I wrote about one I received the other day over at my Bible site.....

Hi!

I have added your site to my Georgia blogroll at Georgia on My Mind where I have an extensive collection of blogs authored by folks from our fair state.

I founded and maintain the Georgia Carnival. It posts every other week, and I invite you to visit Georgia on My Mind where information is available regarding the carnival along the sidebar of my site. Please think about submitting a post to the carnival in the future.

What a sweet story, I pray more people would do this as well!

We had a visiting minister once who wore no shoes (we live in FL!) he told the story of why he didn't wear shoes - (long story short) a poor lady wouldn't come to church because she had no shoes. He told her if she would come to church he wouldn't wear shoes either! From then on he didn't wear shoes!

Oh Wow, Betty, that was great. I'll have to pass that one on to my DH. He will like it.

Thanks for visiting my blog! You should visit Alabama more often...or go to an auction near you!

Take care,
Jillian
