Friday Show and Tell at Kelli's.......

Today is Friday and that means 'Show and Tell' over at Kelli's....

Before Christmas almost every member of our family asked what I wanted for Christmas......my answer was," I'll think about it".......a couple of weeks before Christmas I asked our two daughters, their husbands and our eight grandchildren to write down their memories of coming to our home......good and if any bad ones, include those also......

Christmas night we opened our gifts from each other and I reminded them of the memories request......

The next day after lunch before everyone left for home, our 17 year old twin granddaughters, Erin and Elisabeth, gave me a package to open.......the picture above shows the binder they made containing the memories.....

Everyone gathered round as we had 'The Reading of the Memories'. The older grandchildren read the ones they had written....fishing and frying the fish, helping me with yard work, dressing up in my hats, shoes and jewelry, etc...simple things.......one son-by-love wrote about the first time he came out from college where he and Mindy were enrolled to eat with us and ate grits and fried fish (Grits with fish is a southern thing).....Amy's husband remembered coming out from college to go to Bible Study with us and staying late to discuss scriptures...... and the Mama's read what the younger ones had told them....the youngest member is 2 year old Alexander.....his memories were brief and to the point.....gum-gum and naner's (bananas)......

Each year, Lord willing, we will add to our Book of Memories....we're writing a book for posterity......

Do you have a special family memory?

Dear Friend Betty......

How absolutely enchanting! What a precious record of memories your journal will contain as it is compiled through the years...... telling of the many pleasures enjoyed by your family at your home. Fabulous idea! I know it will be treasured forever.

Betty, your memory book is a true keepsake and will be enjoyed for years to come. Pretty cover and the recollections are heart warming.
I've made a little memory book for my daughter, sharing family stories and the good old days, I'm thinking I might tuck some photos in it...hugs, Linda

Oh Betty, what a fabulous gift - a treasure for your whole family. When my parents were married for 50years I made a book of cards and letters written by everyone I could find that they had known over the years. Every time I visit them I still love to look through it and read stories and thoughts from family and old friends. Your book of memories will become a favorite family tradition. What a great gift suggestion - better than anything one could buy.

Hi Betty,

First of all, you and I have something else in common besides having an "Edward" for a husband. We both have twin granddaughters.

What a fun, neat idea to have a memories book. That will always be a treasure to look back on and to enjoy.

Hi Betty,

What a lovely idea but of course you have to be blessed with all those great grandchildren to be able to do it.

Memories of my Grandparents house. A place of peace and safety from the turmoil at home and my Grandfather always had a tin of sweets on the mantlepiece.

Lovely photo meme post and to be a redneck because one calls Christmas Christmas, whatever next.
