Everyone should be so blessed to have someone in their life like I have…..Roselyn or Rosie as she is known to her grandchildren and family. I fondly tell her she is my oasis in the desert of life.
Roselyn is above 80 age wise. By her demeanor, appearance and spirit you would never know it. She is very chic, always has just that something extra….a jauntily tied scarf, a pretty belt, just something extra. Her purse always compliments her outfit. She has beautiful white hair and brown eyes.
She is no stranger to adversity. Many years ago she had breast cancer. She is a widow, having lost her husband some years ago. They were an ideal couple….just so loving and giving of themselves. When you visited in their home, you had to have something to eat and drink. Always made you feel so welcome. Couldn’t wait to come again. She continues to have health problems and is in doctor’s offices on a regular basis. Her daughter sees that she’s at all her appointments. She has Macular Degeneration that hampers her reading, writing, et. She does not complain and most times doesn’t mention her health unless someone else brings it up.
She is a dedicated Child of the King. She loves the Lord and He loves her. She is very active in her church and her activities. She entertains the visiting ministers and their families and is a wonderful cook. When you sit at her table, you are treated royally. Speaking of which, we are to be her guest tonight for the evening meal. My husband, is preaching tonight at the church she attends. I can hardly wait until time to go!
Her home is like walking into a Southern Living advertisement. Each piece of furniture is placed to the best advantage. Each accessory compliments the décor. Original paintings by her son grace the walls. We usually sit in front of the living room fireplace in wing back chairs to have our visit. Oh, and her miniature walled garden complete with fountain, statuaries, carefully selected plants, manicured just so, is beautiful. Her multi-talented son has his touch inside and outside.
Her immediate family composed of a son, daughter and husband, two granddaughters and sons-in-law, a grandson, four great-grandchildren and two sisters who love this woman! But then, so do I. She is my friend, mentor, confidante and she reminds me so much of my Mama. The picture above was on the kitchen cabinet when Mindy (my daughter) came for a visit Sunday. Glancing at it she thought it was a picture of Mama. She is a wonderful example to both young and old of what a Christian lady should be. When I grow up, I want to be just like her!
If you have someone in your life like my friend Roselyn ,then you are blessed also.

"when I grow up I want to be just like her"
I was thinking that the whole time I read this post...I just love older women that have endured much but have not let it harden or embitter them...I had such a lady in my Hubby's grandmother...God rest her soul...she lived to 87!!
:-D
She is certainly a very beautiful lady and it's wonderful to know that she's as beautiful inside. You are indeed very blessed to have such a friend. I have my friend June that I meet up for coffee on a daily basis...if we're not shopping or travelling around:-) I can tell her anything and I can trust her with everything. She's 10 years older than me (I'm going to be 50 and she's 60)and we're always there for each other. Have a terrific time at dinner tonight:-) xox
She looks so genteel! I'm sure she's a true blessing to you. Sounds like she has lots of loving family around her as well, which would certainly account for that lovely smile!!
:)
The perfect southern belle. That was such a sweet tribute.
What a great friend to have! You should print this out and read it to her.
Betty when I fist saw her picture I thought she was someone famous, maybe a movie actress or a presidents wife...she looks so classy & dignified (I cant even spell that word but she looks it). Sounds like her reputation and character goes right along with her good looks. Yeah you are really blessed!! Didn't you say she was cooking for yall? What did she cook?!!
Hi Betty! Thanks for sharing Miss Rosie with us. I think many of us have people like this that the Lord allows into our lives,I have known many. They are special and there for a reason. She is such a lovely lady with a loving heart. You are blessed to have her as a friend. Also, while I am here, thanks for stopping by my place. I am not well, but I am blessed, may have failed to thank you for the visit. Have a great day!
God Bless!
Sounds like you are going to have a wonderful time tonight.
My son pastors our church and it has been a great blessing to his Dad and myself. It was hard at first, to know your son is your spiritual leader. He is such a fine man and lives what he preaches so we have learned so much under his ministry.
Have a wonderful day from connie in Texas
Betty, I just read the menu over on Tina's blog. Sounds like it was a really good meal. I glad some folks still cook for the preacher!
What a lovely post for you dear friend Betty. She looks so lovely and feminine. Do say hello from me. :)
Hope you are keeping well.
When I just started reading your post, I immediately though of my beloved grandma who passed away in 2000, aged 88 blessed years. I miss her so much...
BTW, would you like to join me for a cup of coffee in the sun on my garden bench? Come along!
Have a great week-end, dear Betty!
And pray tell just how did you come to meet this gracious southern belle?
Wishin I had a confidant like this.
Bless her heart!Lovely post about your friend Rosi!hugs NG
Such a lovely post to your dear friend ,
Hi Betty, I just wanted to drop by and say hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I hope you'll stop back again!
I loved reading your story about your sweet friend Rosie. She certainly is a beautiful lady on the outside as well as the inside.
Betty, you are truly blessed to have her in your life!
She sounds like a real treasure.
What a beautiful person Rosie is! I am so thankful when I meet older people who get involved in the lives of younger people, praying for them and following the Biblical verse to "teach younger women". I honour those women who show, by their example, the way we need to grow, too!
I hope your friend will know about this post. Its very touching! There are not many ladies like your Rosie but I'm a lucky girl who also knows a person like her. Shes over 70 years old (over 30 years older than me) but it doesnt matter cause our souls are so much alike. Shes also so chic, she knows what to wear. She paints and is an excellent cook. I cant go there without eating something she has baked or cooked...Her name is Marjatta and shes a treasure. How lucky we are Betty! Next time I see her I have to tell how much she means to me. Thanks Betty for reminding me.
Hi Betty! Thanks for visiting my site!
What a beautiful tribute! Makes me think of Howard, a dear friend in our lives that died last Valentine's Day. He was 99. He was a gift in our lives!
