Aunt Betty's tea set.............

I was named Betty after a great-aunt. My grandmother's sister, Betty, was a sweet lady, although to be honest, I was just a little afraid of her. She had presence, if you know what I mean. I loved to go to her house. To a little girl, it looked humongus (you know very large).

She had lots and lots of handpainted china, all shapes and sizes.

The house had a large porch that the ladies sat on to have their chats and do their visiting. There was a fish pool out front with lots of big goldfish. That really impressed me, to the point that I always wanted one. Several years ago, my husband hand dug one in our back yard. We enjoy our fish, but that's another posting for another day.

After Aunt Betty died, I was told that she had bequeathed me a tea set for being her name sake.
Mama and I went down when her house was being emptied. I was given the tea set shown in the picture.

Through the years I entertained my nieces with lots of tea parties.

In later years, one of my aunts told me that I didn't get the tea set that Aunt Betty designated for me. The day of the dispensing, an older lady was there and she got my tea set, a much larger one, and stated that I wouldn't know the difference.

I wonder if Aunt Betty knows the difference........................................................

So nice to meet you Miz Betty!!
I've recently discovered a love of hot tea, or as my Aussie friends call it "a cuppa"...I would dearly love to own a tea set one day!!
And I bet your Aunt Betty does know and that that other ladies set will either come to you...or...every piece will be broken...lol!! I've always believed what goes around comes around!

Hi Betty. Thanks so much for visiting my blog. Your tea set, whether the one designated for you or not, is just lovely. That color of blue is so pretty, and I'm sure you've enjoyed it through the years. I loved hearing your memories of Aunt Betty. I could just picture her and her lady friends sitting out on that porch. I'd love to have a little goldfish fish pond myself--maybe someday!
Your blog is great--please come back and visit me soon, and I'll be back here, too.

Hello Betty...

I like Aunt Betty’s tea set and you have loved and cherished it over the years, just as if it was indeed, her specially chosen gift for you. You have good memories of lovely tea parties with your family & friends using this very set and I’m sure Aunty Betty looks on fondly seeing the love within your family that embraces one of her care for possessions, be it the one she intended for you or not, it once was Aunty Betty’s and that’s the most important thing. Continue to enjoy! Marion

Hi Betty!
Your tea set is very pretty. I loved hearing about your Aunt's big front porch and goldfish pond. I have a small goldfish pond and would love to see the one your husband dug for you someday!

Kelli,
I'll show our fish pool when it gets warmer and the trees have leaves.. Right now it has a net cover over it to protect the fish. Last year when the leaves had fallen and the pool was visible from the air, a heron got all of our big fish. We were so sad because they were pets and would almost eat out of our hands.

My middle name is Betty and I'm named after my aunt as well. My aunt has blessed me over the years with loving little gifts. I wonder how the other lady has enjoyed her big tea set. So Sad that someone would do that to you.
The one you did get is very nice too.

I love your tea set! I imagine Aunt Betty does know that you didn't get the one she planned for you to have, but I think she's very happy you got one, just the same. :o)

Betty I've tried to comment on your blog over the past few days & it wouldn't let me...but today..YES..I've got it! That tea set reminds me of some dishes my Aunt E has. What a treasure you have even if it wasn't the right one. BUT that would really make me mad about that other lady getting the one your aunt really wanted you to have. I think I would have to hunt her down. I have got to get me some china...I dont have any!
