Trinidad-Tobago guests........

Many years ago my nephew had friends in Trinidad-Tobago....the couple came to the states for a visit and wanted to visit a farm.....we were happy for them to come. They were very knowledgeable of civil war history......we visited a civil war museum and enjoyed showing them a working farm.

The next morning I was cooking breakfast when Linda came into the kitchen carrying a small black book....she and her husband were side band radio enthusiasts. She opened the book and said that she regularly talked via radio to a man in the states. She told me the name (no last name) and part of the address she had. It was almost our address. I called the post office and explained the situation. Finally, I was given the name. It was our neighbor three farms up.

I phoned the man and said, " what would you say if I told you that the Linda that you talk to in Trinidad is standing in my kitchen?" He replied, "I'd say, Good God, woman, you don't mean it!"

Linda and I went to his home so that they could meet....quite a meeting.....what would the chances be of two people who talked on a radio half a world apart meeting? Whenever he talked to her after that he would call me to come talk with her........ Linda gave me a memento from Trinidad and when I think about it, it still blows my mind. I guess ham or side band radios were the prerequisite to blogging.....

That is amazing. I bet they had a good time meeting and talking side by side.

Betty,

An amazing post. What a small world we live in. I'm so glad that Linda and your neighbor were able to meet.

Thanks so much for commenting on the fan I made for Mom. I appreciate your encouragement.

Blessings,
Mary

That was quite a coincidence for sure! You must have been thrilled.
Have done another chapter Betty and I think you might find this one particularly interesting.

What a wonderful story! I do not believe in chance. I think we are lead on a path to bring us to our destiny. I think we meet others along the way that aide us in that journey. Some stay for a short time while others walk the path alongside us but all is there for a purpose. Thanks for reminding me to be mindful of that journey's path today!

Hi Betty. Isn't it a small world? That is a great story! Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. Wouldn't it be fun to really get together for tea? Who knows? If the people from Trindad and Tobago can end up being just down the road from their ham radio friends, maybe we'll find ourselves in the same position one day.

Your story touched my heart because I, too, have friends from Trinidad. I met her through a show called Big Blue Marble which provided a pen-pal program. I wrote in and we continued to write each other through the years. A few years ago I was able to finally meet her and her family. We enjoyed our visit very much. So, I can imagine how excited your neighbor must have been to actually meet his radio talking friend from Trinidad. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful story. Have a nice day.
