The Case of the Missing Earrings......

Once upon a time, but in my lifetime, I was having a wonderful time browsing through a thrift store. I don't recall if it was Goodwill, Salvation Army or just a junque store......I spied a pair of silver earrings that called my name. They were tarnished but I like the shape. When I asked the price they were either fifty cents or a dollar. Of course, they came home with me.

After cleaning them with silver polish I discovered the silver marking 925 on them. They became my favorite silver earrings....plain enough to wear everyday and yet dressy enough to wear when the occasion arose. They were very comfortable because they were so light weight.....

A couple of months ago, after a long trip, as we were driving into our driveway, I removed them knowing I would be taking a shower and shampooing my hair. I remember dropping them into something by my feet.

A few days passed and I thought about the earrings. I looked in all the usual places I normally keep them.....no earrings. I looked in by purse....several times...to no avail. Finally, I decided I must have dropped them into a shopping bag and later when I removed my purchase I had thrown the bag in the trash can. Of course that trash bag had been thrown away a few days earlier. I searched high and low.....in the van.....under the sofa cushions......under the bed.....under the chest ........no earrings.....

Now I don't love things, I love the Lord and people, but I will hurriedly admit that I do have some favorite things. This earrings fell into this category. I was so disappointed with myself for not being more careful. There was nothing to do but 'just get over it'.......

Last Friday was a cold day in the south. We were going to be out and about delivering Easter Baskets to shut-ins and elderly so I decided on a jogging suit with a long sleeve jacket, and that called for white tennis shoes. I located them in the bottom of my closet. When I straightened up, the shoes sorta tumbled and I heard a rattle.....looking down I couldn't believe my eyes.....THERE WERE MY EARRINGS! I screamed, "I don't believe it!" My husband was in the bathroom with the door closed and he had no idea what was going on.......

Now is the Lord good or what? I still reach up and touch them to make sure they are really attached to my ears.....you better believe that I will be sooooo careful with them, putting them where they will be safe when I take them off. I might not be so blessed the next time........

Isn't that a wonderful feeling?

I just had something similar happen. I had lost one of my black pearl earrings. These were so special because they were the "mother's gift" from my daughter's wedding.

I tucked away the other earring in a safe place, hoping I'd find the mate someday. When I was spring cleaning my bedroom, what should show up with a bunch of dust bunnies from under my bed? THE EARRING.

Isn't it like getting a gift?

Ever since losing it, I started putting my earrings away in their "home" each night!

Glad you found them Betty. I have had similar experiences and more than once.

I see you have your new site all done. I have not been able to get Page Elements up for a couple of months now so i am wondering how you managed to do all this. Maybe it is only some areas that are affected.
I have posted the last chapter of my story if you have time to come over.
I know you are now getting excited about the nearness of Marion's visit.
Blerssings to you.

Oh! Betty
So sorry you had that fall. They do shake one up. Trust there will be no after effects.
Thanks for your comments and encouragement.

Betty,

I am so glad you found your favorite pair of earrings. I cana so relate to this. I don't know of the times when I have lost something only to search and search for it to no avail. When I would give up and forget about it, then it would suddenly appear. Always gives me a happy feeling to find what I had lost.

Cute story and I'm so glad you found your earrings! I wear gold earrings a lot and I'm forever losing one so I try to buy the same one's every time and match them up.

I think moments like this remind us to care for the things were are blessed with in life. That ranges from the material to the precious (by this I mean the people). It is too easy in this busy day and age to become careless. Thank you for this reminder. I am going to spend this evening emailing a little note to a few friends. My way to take care of our friendships.

Hugs ~

It happens to the best of us Betty. We sometimes put things away without thinking and then when we want it, we can't find it. I'm happy you got your favourite earrings back.

I call that a "God Wink!"

I had a similar situation with a favorite pair of earrings. I thought I had lost it in the car and searched several times to no avail. I almost threw the one away, but didn't. Months later I found the "other" earring in my jewelry armoire, in a different drawer. I have no idea how all that happened, but I'm still enjoying wearing them, and still being careful when I put them away!

Betty, Am I thrilled that you have found those earrings you told me about! that’s just great and so good to see them too, yes, they are pretty, the sort that will go with anything, as you say.

Its been interesting to read similar stories of lost items that your post has evoked.... to add to them... I have a pearl ring..... one single pearl that sits in a tiny gold cup as an acorn does. I have lost this pearl three times, each time thinking well, that’s it! the ring is spoilt, then sooner or later as the case was, I found the pearl, one time I remember it was on our drive, another time I was just about to vacuum it up. Yes, the Lord is good in so many ways.

I have been three times lucky in finding my pearl.... I don’t wear the ring now. Fondest Love - Marion
