Friday Show and Tell......Pay It Forward winner, Excellence blogger award

Friday is always a fun day looking at Show and Tell on everyone's blog.......check it out over at Kelli's........

About two weeks ago I was in one of favorite thrift shows and saw this picture or painting. It looks hand painted and seems to be painted on wood with a very glossy finish. It has a label on the back that states it was made in , gosh, I don't where it says....just a lot of letters......

Anyway, I like it and think maybe it's a father, mother and grown daughter. Is anyone famili
ar with this style?

I won the Pay it Forward book give-away over at Mar

What a great find Betty....... a lovely winter scene. I’m certainly no expert, but to me, it has an Eastern European look about it. It will be interesting to see what other ideas come forward.

I’m really looking forward to visiting these wonderful ‘Thrift Stores’ you have, I must try and arrange to leave some space in my luggage to bring a few treasurers back with me. Happy Friday and have a blessed weekend. I await the news this day brings. Bestest Love - Marion

Big congratulations on your awards Miss Betty!

I'm not familiar with that style of painting or artist, but it is a gorgeous piece. I know you'll enjoy it. It made me want to curl up under a blanket with some hot chocolate!

It looks like a Russian Troika to me, and that would fit in with the snow and the warm clothes too - lovely picture. Enjoy the book too!

P.S. Glad your stove "healed" itself (I'd have done the same as you too - it annoys me when obsolescence is built into modern electrical goods. We have two fridges here from the early 1950s - and they will freeze milk because they are so well insulated!)

I am not familiar with the painter but the painting is lovely. I can imagine a story to go with it! :)

Thank you for sharing it.

That is a nice picture. We got to ride in a horse drawn open sleigh at a Christmas party, and your new-old picture reminds me of that time. Thanks for sharing.

I am not familiar with thsi style but it looks like it's European to me. I guess the man's coat looks like it could be that or Russian. I read your stove saga in your previous post. Replacing stoves is a pain in the neck! Mine went out the day I was planning my annual Christmas Bake-a-thon! I love my new one though, it has 2 ovens. It has a shallow one on the top and a regular sized one on the bottom! I can crank out cookies twice as fast now!

Betty, you found a lovely example of Russian Folk Art painting that is a Troika. It's probably not wood but papier mache. Russian papier mache is much different than ours. I'll venture that it's painted in oils and is from the village of Fedoskino or Zhostovo, two of the predominant painting villages and styles, near Moscow. I've visited both factories and many of their painters have come to the U.S. to share their skills. Many of them are involved with the Society of Decorative Painters. Nice find!

surprise award! You are a ray of
sunshine Betty - out in the blogosphere! Thanks Again!

I agree Russian art, does it have
weird symbols that look like letters? This might be Russian too?
